The Bank of Canada cut its policy rate by 25 basis points to 4.25%, continuing its balance sheet normalization. Global growth reached 2.5% in Q2, with stronger-than-expected U.S. performance but weaker growth in China. Canada’s economy grew 2.1%, led by government spending and investment, though economic activity slowed in June and July. Inflation eased to 2.5%, but high shelter costs remain a key contributor. The Bank reduced rates to address excess supply and inflationary pressures, with its next rate announcement scheduled for October 23, 2024.
